Epsom vs Swift vs Togo: Choosing a Calfskin Watch Strap

Walk through our calfskin watch straps and you'll see names like Epsom, Swift, Togo, Buttero and Pueblo. They're all calf leather, but each one is tanned and finished differently — which changes how the strap looks, feels and ages on your wrist. Here's a plain-English guide to choosing between them.

Epsom: structured and scratch-resistant

Epsom calfskin: a fine embossed grain that keeps its crisp look.

Epsom is calfskin with a fine, embossed grain pressed into the surface. That pressing makes it firm, lightweight and very resistant to scratches and water marks. It holds its shape, keeps crisp edges and shows colour beautifully — which is why it's popular for bright and two-tone straps, including our racing and rally designs.

Choose Epsom if: you want a clean, sharp look that stays new-looking with daily wear.

Swift: smooth and refined

Swift calfskin: smooth, supple and rich in colour.

Swift has a smooth, fine-grained surface with a gentle sheen. It's soft and supple from day one and takes colour deeply, giving rich, saturated tones. Because the surface is smooth, it can show light marks over time — many people enjoy that as part of its character.

Choose Swift if: you want a dressy, elegant strap that feels soft immediately.

Togo: pebbled and relaxed

Togo calfskin: a soft, natural pebble grain.

Togo has a natural, raised pebble grain and a matte finish. It's soft yet durable, and the grain hides small scratches well. It feels a little more casual than Swift and a little softer than Epsom.

Choose Togo if: you want a comfortable, textured everyday strap.

Buttero and Pueblo: Italian character

Buttero and Pueblo are vegetable-tanned Italian leathers. Buttero is smooth and full-bodied; Pueblo has a distinctive, slightly brushed surface that looks vintage from the start. Both develop a deeper colour and patina as they're worn — no two straps age the same way.

Choose these if: you love leather that changes and tells a story over time.

What about patina leather?

Hand-dyed patina leather: colour built up by hand in layers.

Our hand-dyed patina straps start from vegetable-tanned calf leather and are coloured by hand in layers, so each piece has unique depth and shading. They continue to darken slightly with sunlight and wear.
